The collection of genealogical research materials, formerly located in the Cindy Shawley
Spore Memorial Genealogical Research Library in Port Orchard, is currently housed in the Genealogy Center, which is located
inside the Sylvan Way Branch of the Kitsap Regional Library (KRL) in Bremerton, Washington. The Genealogy Center is open during
regular library hours, which are: Mon 1-8pm; Tue & Wed 10am-8pm; Thu 1-5pm; Fri 10am-6pm; and Sat 10am-5pm.
The
genealogical research collection includes books and periodicals from each state and several countries. In addition, family
history books, guides and instructions, census data, and various compendia and records round out the collection. Microfilm
and microfiche records are also on hand. The entire collection is available at no charge to researchers as a non-circulating
reference collection. An updated database is now available here. The database is sorted by type, meaning, for example, all the books with "Connecticut" in the title are arranged
alphabetically together under the type "CT." This is a quick way to find specific localities and follows the same
format we used at our former library in Port Orchard. This
relocation is the culmination of several years of conversations and planning that resulted in a partnership between PSGS and
KRL that reflects our shared vision of providing research, educational, and genealogical information to the community at large.
