MEETING DATES:
We plan to meet on alternating months on the Third Thursday of
January, March, May, July, September, and November.
PURPOSE:
This group is for anyone who is interested in learning how to do research in Sweden. If you are just beginning to research
your family in Sweden come and learn how to get started. If you have already started researching your Swedish ancestors please
come and share your successes and what you have learned.
GOALS:
Each meeting will begin with an information segment covering various topics relating to Swedish research based on topics
such as: Finding your Swedish Family in the United States using Vital Records, Census Records, Immigration and Naturalization
Records, and more. Exploring church records in Sweden, including how to find your ancestor’s parish. Using maps to identify
Swedish jurisdictions. Overcoming the language barrier. Understanding the patronymic naming system. Looking for other sources
of information in Sweden.

10:30 – 11:00 Information Segment (Various topics)

–– 1:00 Individual Research .
WHAT TO BRING:
Your KRL library card. (You will need this to log on to the KRL computer system and access the library’s edition
of Ancestry.com.)
Your own laptop computer (optional) Wi-Fi is available.
Something to share about your family
(a photo, a story, or any other memorabilia about your family)
Your research questions and goals.
The surnames
and locations of your Swedish family (both in the US and in Sweden)
Bring any books software information, websites or
other materials you would like to share. (Be sure to put your name on each item.)
Bring your calendar so that we can
schedule future meetings and field trips.
NOTE: WE
CANNOT BRING FOOD INTO THE LIBRARY BUT A BOTTLE OF WATER WITH A LID IS O.K. THERE ARE SEVERAL LOCATIONS NEARBY IF YOU WANT
TO EAT LUNCH AND RETURN TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AFTER THE LIBRARY OPENS AT 1:00.
