An updated, comprehensive list of the library's collection is now available in the library and online.
The research material consists of the
following categories: books, periodicals, maps, phone books, microfilm, microfiche, CDs, and papers. Each category is in a designated section and each section is sub-divided into the following classifications:
Instructions
Guides
Catalogs
Compendia
Records
History (family,
general, ethnic groups)
Other Countries
Census
USA (regions, states, Washington)
For further identification, these classifications are color coded.
Introductory pages to the catalog include the title page, color coding
system, a key to the locator abbreviations, and the layout of each room in the library.These pages can
be viewed here.
The online catalog is sorted by locator
numbers and can be searched here.
The latest library acquisitions can be viewed here.
Researchers using the printed catalog at the library can search by locator number as well as alphabetically
by title or by author.
The books range from general information such as encyclopedia to specific such as
church or land records. Periodicals include major genealogical magazines plus journals from miscellaneous genealogical
societies both in-state and out-of-state as well as other countries, e.g. Sweden.
The microfilm collection consists
of census rolls, the Washington State Death Index and Birth Index.
More records such as Family Tree Maker, Social
Security Death Index, some special census, marriage records, and the United States phone index are available in CD form.
Special small booklets and papers that may include letters as well as family information are kept in the hanging files and are also available to researchers.
Equipment for the use of the above material
includes a copy machine, microfiche reader, two microfilm readers, and two computers.

Several times a year PSGS members plan a trip to a research facility such as the Washington State Archives or NARA,
the regional branch of the National Archives in Seattle. Other trips include the genealogical collections of several
libraries in the area. Jean Yager is the coordinator of these trips.

Volunteer Librarians
The
PSGS Library is staffed by Society volunteers. If you are a member of the Society and would like to contribute one six
hour day a month to help us in this effort, please contact the PSGS Volunteer Library Manager, Charlotte Long-Thornton.
The Cindy Shawley Spore Memorial Genealogical Research Library
is normally open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mary Ann Wright
is the Librarian.
The library is supported by
donations, memorial gifts and on-going fundraising activities.
