These are a look back at some of the activities our Society has sponsored.
As you will see by the descriptions, these are either educational or fund raising events. They are offered to Society
members and non-members alike, and enhance our knowledge and raise funds to keep our non-profit Society and research library

Barbara Chesley presented a workshop in March, "Creating Your Personal Timeline". This workshop helped to see our
own lives in the perspective of major historical events that have happened in our lifetime.

In April, Harry McConnell taught a series of workshops on "Restoring Old Photos" using layering and other techniques
in Adobe Photoshop.

PSGS sponsored a "Walking Tour of Historical Downtown Port Orchard" again this year in June.
Sandie Morrison narrated the tour pointing out some of the historical people and interesting places in Port Orchard in the
beginning of the last century. The tour included having lunch in one of the historic buildings.

| Knights of Pythias Cemetery Tour 2007 |

In August 2007, the PSGS Cemetery Project Committee conducted a tour at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery in
Port Orchard. Several committee members, after doing extensive research, assumed the identy of some of the residents
interred there. They dressed in period clothing and spoke about their roles in the community during their lives,
as docents guided the groups through the cemetery.

A workshop on Probate and Wills was presented by Lillian Schauer on August 6. She made arrangements
for a trip to the court house to meet the county clerk and to see where records are kept.

In early September, a Genealogy Seminar was held at the Silverdale Community Center. The guest speakers were Mary
Sullens McEwan, author of "Fast, Fun and Free", and "Doing Canadian Research" and Bonnie Jean MacDonald who spoke iin the
afternoon on "Research in the Northwest".

| Mosquito Fleet Boat Tour 2007 |
In September, the Historical "Mosquito Fleet" Boat Tour was offered. This time we went north to Bainbridge
Island and then returned to Port Orchard by way of South Colby, with Bob Ulsh telling about all of the whistle stops
along the way.

| Chocolate Fest 2007 |
Chocolate Fest 2007 was one of our fundraisers which supports our library. The vendors supplied unlimited chocolate
which the guests who bought tickets enjoyed throughout the evening. There was also a silent auction and boutique.

Historical Records Preservation Project
PSGS undertook the task of digitizing old records and compiling a data base of names for genealogical research.
The group met every week and made thousands of copies which are being transcribed into a computer database for future reference.
The Obituary and Cemetery records are also being transcribed into computer databases.

| A Genelogy 101 class |
Genealogy 101
A beginning genealogy class and refresher course for others was taught by Sandie Morrison in Febuary.
This class is offered every third month on the third Saturday. It covers the basics and shows how to get started doing
family research.

Interesting Speakers
Jerry Handfield was back by popular demand in February to continue his presentation on "What you will find
in Grandma's attic". His talk led to plans to go to the State Archives in Olympia for a field trip.

Antique Appraisal Fair
The annual Antique Appraisal Fair which is co-sponsored with the Kitsap Historical Society was a successful
fundraiser again this year in April. These funds help to support our library expenses.

Internet Genealogy
In April, Terry Mettling taught a class in Internet Genealogy with "hands-on" instruction on researching family
ancestors on the intertnet.

Navigating Ancestry.com
Another class in April was presented by Shanda Hoover who helped to show what Ancestry.com has available and
how to use it effectively in all areas of family research.

Courthouse Records: Probate and Wills Class
Lillian Schauer, a lawyer who specializes in probates and wills gave a very informative and interesting presentation
followed by a field trip to visit the County Clerk's office in the court house. Several case studies were chosen as
examples of the wealth of genealogical data found in court cases and legal documents. Lillian is also a member of PSGS.
